Bringing AI Into Project Work

Devi is an AI assistant built into Forge, a project planning and management platform for teams managing complex work. As AI became a bigger part of how people interact with software, we saw an opportunity to make project work more proactive and assistive through a contextual AI experience.

I designed Devi around the different ways users need support throughout a project—from taking action and looking ahead to understanding progress, resources, and project context.

Problem

Project Work Was Still Too Manual

Teams still had to spend time manually reviewing project information, checking progress, and piecing together context before deciding what to do next. This added friction to everyday project work and made it harder to move quickly from information to action.

Design Goals

Make Project Work More Proactive

The goal was to use AI to reduce manual effort by helping users understand project context, surface what matters, and move from questions to next steps more quickly within the same workflow.

Solutions

Start With a Suggested Prompt

Users can start with a suggested prompt to quickly complete common tasks, such as updating a deliverable’s status, timeline, or assignee. Devi uses the current project context to guide each action, reducing the need to navigate through the platform manually.

Review Before Taking Action

When Devi suggests an action, users can review and adjust the proposed changes before applying them to the project. This keeps AI-generated actions transparent and gives users control over the final outcome.

Turn Context Into Recommendations

Devi goes beyond answering questions by interpreting project information and suggesting what users may need to focus on next. Features like Lookahead and project summaries help turn scattered project data into clearer priorities and recommendations.

Get Proactive Support

Devi can identify potential risks, upcoming needs, or important next steps before users ask. This helps teams respond earlier and keep work moving before small issues become bigger problems.
